Customer Tracking System
The Requirements
A major bank needed to rewrite an in-house system used by about 1,200 people
in their Corporate Banking division. The system stored customer/prospect information and call tracking, generated
credit reports, loan documents and various other reports for both loan
officers and management. The database resided on
the bank’s IBM mainframe in DB/2. The existing legacy application
ran only in Windows 3.1 and could not be modified, preventing the 1,200
users from upgrading to newer versions of Windows.
The Solution
MindCrafted Systems worked with the bank’s
internal systems staff and another
vendor to develop a state-of-the-art intranet application that replaced all
the functionality of the original application plus more, all without
needing any modifications to the mainframe DB/2 database!
Technology, Tools and Innovations
We used the
following technologies to implement this re-write.
-
Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0
for the front-end user interface.
-
Microsoft Transaction Server
to manage transactions between clients and the mainframe DB/2 database. -
Microsoft COM Transaction Integrator. -
COBOL, CICS, and DB/2 to run calls to the
existing back-end functions.

Minimize Changes |

|
Mindful of the large investment
already made in this system, we left the back-end in
tact by using the same interface specified by the
previous system. |
